Fukushima Prefecture to reexamine locally grown rice

The Fukushima prefectural government will reexamine locally grown rice declared safe for consumption following the recent discovery of rice from Fukushima city exceeding the safety levels.

On Thursday, it was learned harvested rice from the Onami district in Fukushima registered radioactive cesium exceeding the provisional regulatory limit of 500 becquerels per kilogram. Some of the rice had already been shipped to local rice sellers.

The prefectural government apparently hopes to minimize the impact of the Onami case on consumers by underlining the safety of local rice through multiple inspections.
