Shimada, Shizuoka Prefecture, at the first public briefing on 12/21 residents of Shimada City unified the voices of residents to recall the mayor.  The Mayor of Shimada City had recently accepted a policy to accept the debris, but the citizens are now calling for his resignation.

One after another, citizens came forward to voice their opposition to the acceptance of the waste, and called out the mayor for trying to enact such a policy despite the lack of public approval.  The briefing was supposed to be only for residents living near the debris landfill sites, but the entire city showed up to voice their opposition.
