Electrical fault and oil spill lead to Sequoyah Nuclear on-site event

In a press release, TVA officials said an electrical malfunction at the Sequoyah Nuclear power plant’s electrical switchyard damaged electrical distribution equipment.   TVA officials declared a “notification of unusual event” at 8:34 a.m. Sunday and notified federal, state and local authorities.

Sequoyah plant officials terminated the notice at 10:19 a.m. after the electrical fault involved in the malfunction was identified.  Officials said about 10 gallons of oil spilled from the internal electrical equipment in the power circuit breaker during the incident.
