On Wednesday, plant personnel at Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant were conducting operator training simulations when an inadvertent Alert notification for Diablo Canyon Power Plant (DCPP), Unit 1 was transmitted to local authorities. The plant operators alerted authorities that the notification should be disregarded, and believes that the issue may have been caused by a failure to disconnect the notification system after an emergency plan drill last week.
The licensee had inadvertently notified the NRC, San Luis Obispo County, and the State of California. The Alert was issued as a loss of the Unit 1 fuel cladding barrier with no radioactive release. There is no Alert declaration at DCPP Units 1 or 2, and both units are operating normally.
