Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Srikumar Banerjee confirmed that all possible efforts are still being made to bring both reactors at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant to operational status as soon as possible.

The AEC also announced that the unit 1 RPV will be loaded with nuclear fuel in the coming days after inspections are carried out by robotic mechanism.

Construction of the nuclear power plant has been delayed due to anti-nuclear protests by the locals and People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy.

The Indian government is accusing the resistance to the expansion of the anti-nuclear sentiment of being supported by foreign organizations.
