Investigation underway to establish cause of fire at Hinkley Point B

BBC Reports  An investigation is underway to establish the cause of a fire which caused multiple firefighters to be dispatched to the Hinkley Point B nuclear power station in Somerset.

Residents in Bridgwater had reported hearing sirens heading in the direction of the nuclear power plant.  In fact several fire engines including the station’s fire response team were mobilized, along with Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

A spokesman from EDF Energy said a “small fire” was detected in some lagging in the gas turbine house at just before noon on Wednesday.

The spokesman said the fire was extinguished in a few minutes, before the fire service arrived, and added that an investigation was being carried out to establish the cause of the fire.
