Exelon worker charged after bringing weapon to nuclear power plant

According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, Mark A. Garcia, 32, from Austin Texas, was charged with the unlawful use of a weapon after he showed up for work with a 9-millimeter handgun in his backpack on May 6th.

In the police report it was noted that when Garcia arrived at work, he checked his backpack through the security station x-ray belt for inspection prior to entry to the protected area of the plant.

The x-ray belt stopped, and the security guard was able to clearly see the handgun inside of the backpack.  According to the security guard, when Garcia saw the x-ray belt had stopped he realized why and said that he had forgotten that the weapon was in his backpack.
